Ashley and Justin | Yorkville Maternity Session

When I first started my business, social media wasn’t a thought on most business owners minds. Back when facebook was only available to college students with a .edu address. Crazy where we have come in a decade + of technology! Now everyone can access social media not only from their home computers, the comforts of their home, poolside, on top of a mountain…or for most of us during normal work hours, our work desks (shhhh!).
What started as a way for me to share my personal photos with family and friends has turned into a powerful business tool to share with my clients. I love that when I share photos, the moments captured can be immediately shared with family and friends. That they can share in the joy of the moment with the bride and groom, with the expectant parents, with the first glimpse of a newborn baby. Pictures are powerful, they encapsulate moments in our lives that we want to cherish and share with others. I think of my job as sharing the joy in life…cheesy, I know! But I truly do love being a part of such happy moments in life.

All of that to say… Ashley found me through social media. I photographed her high school friend a few weeks ago (for her maternity session) and Ashley liked what she saw and decided to send me an email. Their little one is due in May – and they are waiting to find out if they are having a boy or girl, which to me is one of the greatest surprises in life!
While we had a somewhat gray day for their maternity session, I love the soft light that lent itself to soft and beautiful photos. We started downtown Yorkville, where I love the spot on the river and the old discarded train cars and metal buildings. Then ended up at Emerson Creek Pottery and Tearoom. Emerson isn’t open for the season, and I am so excited for all of the things that they are working on for this year! But the grounds are beautiful as always, a perfect backdrop for a maternity session.
