Normally I have no problem choosing one favorite image to start off a blog post with, but not for Clare’s session. I kept going back and forth on which image was my favorite, and which one should go first. I chose this one, because I love her sweet little grin, and I also love this rustic feel to this picture.
Earlier this year, her dad (of James Currie Photography) and I talked about trading head shots for a newborn session. Ever since my head shots (on a freezing day in May!) I couldn’t wait to hear of Clare’s arrival. James and Wendy have been trying for, hoping, praying for a little one to fill their arms. God has blessed them with this sweet bundle, and it is such a miracle to witness life and the growing of a family.
I am thrilled that James and Wendy asked if I could photograph their little girl, and be creative with the session. I am not always able to use the props that I want, or get outside for pictures, but since they were coming to my in home studio for the session, I had it all mapped out! It was a lovely surprise when James and Wendy brought along a beautiful plaid blanket to be used in pictures. They have a Scottish heritage, and had picked up the plaid blanket on their travels to Scotland. Definitely a first for me, bold and plaid. I loved it!
The basket that is used in the pictures is a handmade creation that my Mom found during our travels to Russia. She fell in love with it and was determined to bring it home with her. Over the years I have commented on how much I love the basket and how I would love to use it in my newborn sessions. Just a few months ago, after I had completely forgotten about the basket, my mom asked if I would like to add the basket to my newborn prop collection. I quickly said yes, thank you and snatched it up before she could change her mind!
The log that I used in the photos was found by my Dad. He knew that I had been on the lookout for the perfect wooden prop, when this tree fell, it was pretty much hollowed out already. So he cut it just right, sanded it down for me (can’t have rough edges for them babies!) and gave it to me for my newborn sessions. It is rather heavy, which is why I can’t haul it with me to sessions. So it is on special reserve for sessions done on our property. I love that my parents have always been a huge support in my photography career. They are always finding ways to help me be creative and successful. Cheers to fabulous parents! Of which I am blessed with, and so is little Clare!
